Crayon Rubbings

Crayon Rubbings Assignment

Crayon Rubbing 1
I selected the colors that I thought would go well if they were stacked on top of each other. I wanted to make sure that a person looking at this piece would be able to distinguish what I had traced. It actually turned out to look quite interesting. The bathroom man that I traced from the men's bathroom sign looks to be facing a mountain which  is actually the AWC logo. The green color that i used to trace the texture looks like he's standing on a grassy field as he is coming up to the bottom of the mountain. The text that I used read Professor of Fine Arts but i did not trace over the whole text Professor actually kind of looks like profession at first glance and it almost made me think of perhaps an idea for an AWC billboard.

Crayon Rubbing 2
For this crayon rubbing I used a more modern looking AWC logo. After tracing it I realized that the mountains actually have the A and the W on them. It's interesting to see how just tracing something that I see everyday can turn into something else completely. I was surprised that the sun rays that seem to be behind the mountain came out so well. The texture that i used was a palm tree which made  it look like the mountain now had a rocky texture.

Assignment Goals

The goal of this assignment was to identify how certain colors look when combined.

  1. For the crayon rubbing 1: The word Professor is above a symbol of a man which can represent higher knowledge. The man is red that might reflect anger or conflict, the man is also surrounded by cooler colors like blue and purple. The man might be representing someone who is in an environment that is different from what they are used to since he is in a warmer color unlike the background. There is also green in the background might represent earth. The red from the man stands out more towards the feet and so does the color green. This can symbolize stability having the feet on the ground.
